VILLAGE OF ELM CREEK

SPRING 2010 NEWSLETTER

IT’S YARDWORK TIME AGAIN!

We have an important message for those who bag your grass clippings. The grass pile has moved from its present location on Buffalo Trail. When you drive west on Pacific Drive, instead of turning south onto Buffalo Trail, go straight down the driveway by the large grain bins. There will be signs to show you where to drive. We are attempting to move the smell from the grass pile further from the residences in the area. DO NOT dump grass at the old site. The tree pile will remain where it is. And also a reminder that the tree pile is going to be chipped again, thus no tree branches larger than 3 inches in diameter. Please do not use the tree/grass piles for your garbage or the piles will be eliminated all together.

There is to be NO yard waste in your garbage containers, or it will not be picked up.

SPRING APPLIANCE PICK UP DATE IS SET

It’s time drag out the old bikes, grills, appliances, and old metal you’d like to dispose of. We have scheduled the spring appliance pick up day for Wednesday, April 14th. Call my office if you’d like to get on the list for pick up. If you’re not on the list, we won’t pick up your items.

SIREN REMINDER

Here’s a reminder of what the different sirens (whistles) mean:

1 whistle: Fire Dept. Meeting (1st Thursday every month)

2 whistles: Water repair/shut off on south side of town

3 whistles: Water repair/shut off on north side of town

6 whistles: Fire or unit call

3 minutes of solid siren whistle: tornado/storm warning, TAKE SHELTER

Civil defense test 1st Thursday of every month at approximately 5:30 p.m. Lasts one minute.

SWIMMING JUST AROUND THE CORNER

The Village is now hiring employees for the swimming pool. You may get an application at the Clerk’s office. Deadline for applications is April 19th. The pool is scheduled to open Memorial Weekend. You may contact the pool once opened for swimming lessons dates/times, water aerobics, etc. The pool number is 856-4945.

GOT DOGS?

Please remember to stop in and have your dog licensed once per year. The cost is $1.50 per dog. This is for your benefit because if "Rover" gets loose, we’ll know where he belongs and he can be returned to you. The Village does enforce its leash law, so please keep Rover on a leash or in your yard. Also, it’s a violation of Village Ordinance to NOT pick up after your dog’s waste in public areas. Take a bag along on those walks and pick up after him, or you’ll be cited. The park is not a "pet park" and dog waste isn’t picked up by Village employees.

GOOD JOB RECYCLING!

The Village is looking into grant programs in order to enhance our recycling program. More bins, perhaps baling of cardboard, etc. are being explored at this time. Everyone is recycling so well now, that it’s time to expand ways in which we recycle. I’ll keep you posted on the progress of any recycling expansion.
